Where the Rainbow Ends by Richard Rive

Rock for World Peace has it's first meeting! WE had a great time. First we read this poem:
"Where The Rainbow Ends

Where the rainbow ends
There's going to be a place, brother,
Where the world can sing all sorts of songs,
And we're going to sing together, brother,
You and I, though you're white, and I'm not.
It's going to be a sad song, brother,
Because we don't know the tune,
And it's a difficult tune to learn.
But we can learn, brother, you and I.
There's no such tune as a black tune.
There's no such tune as a white tune.
There's only music, brother,
And it's music we're going to sing
Where the rainbow ends."

-Richard Rive
Next we discussed how art is usually made in response to something. In this project we created nature installations in response to this poem by Richard Rive. We created three stand alone pieces in the woods behind the school We used a protocol called the "The Intelligent Eye" to evaluate our work. Using I-Movie and Adobe Photoshop, intend to make litle mini-documentaries about this work.

Here's a copy of the announcement Caterina typed for Mrs. Griffin that will be read over the morning announcements

The mission of the Let’s Rock For World Peace Club is to give DMS students an opportunity to make connections between the academic curriculum and our community through the performing arts. Students will examine works of art, literature, mathematical and the sciences and explore their relevance to our community. Our mission will be to tell the “story” of our community. Our “responses” or “creations” will become a showcased event celebrated on the stage in the cafeteria in the spring of 2006.

We will express our connections to the things we learn in school through dance, music, literature, creative writing, and theater/oral traditions. So if you want to know how to use video and digital camera, if you can draw or sing, if you can dance or play an instrument…. Then We NEED your positive energy to show how we can all “Rock for World Peace”. See the sign up sheet at the top of the stairs in front of Art Room 2.

Join us after school in Room Art 2 on Tuesdays. See Mrs. Griffin in Room 215 for details!

Amazing. Fall colors and Team D 8th graders are going to Nature's Classroom for a 3-day field trip this upcoming week. Advisory Group, we have a huge to-do list. Here is it in print for all to see. Note to Parents...Help of any sort is welcome...So consider our appeal....Please help us out!!!

1. Show/MC "Mural Movie" in the Cafeteria during lunches. Pass a bucket around to raise funds for "World Peace Causes". Our advisory will need to identify a worthy cause. Video tape this showing and interview student reactions. Goal: to raise awareness about what students can do and document how this project still connects to who we are as a community.

2. Gather student pictures and video of field trip to create a group IMovie about Nature's Classroom. Completion date: week of Christmas. Goal to show in the Cafeteria during 8th grade lunch. Need to Choose a common theme and music.

3. Create interest in this club by making announcements in the morning. Need a writer and an announcer. Message is: "We are calling for anyone with an interest in art, technology, video and performance. We want writers and actors. Musicians and singers. Our mission is to present a multi-media showcase of all our good works this 2005-2006 school year. 6. We need to have Mrs. Fredrick train us on how to use the equiment on the stage and in the CLR.

7. We need to learn a dance routine and videotape it to the song called "Zoombie", video tape it and then teach it to others. Community Dance Project idea.
